OVER THE EDGE
Steakhouse/Seafood
(345) 945-9568
Come here for an ambience that’s the opposite of what you’ll find at the glossy venues of West Bay Road and downtown George Town. This remote and raffish restaurant is something of a mecca for residents of the sparsely populated North Side. A raucous crowd at the bar greets you at the entrance. Inside, the dining room walls block out sometimes-ferocious winds that batter this place during storms. Outside, you’ll find a wharf-style terrace whose pilings extend straight down into the seabed. The views from the terrace have been described as mystical, especially on calm, moonlit nights. Lunches are relatively simple, focusing on Cayman-style steamed fish, pan-fried conch steak, turtle steak with port sauce, sandwiches stuffed with either tuna or mahimahi, and chef’s salads. Dinners are more elaborate, featuring charbroiled rock-lobster tail, lobster thermidor, savory jumbo shrimp in Pernod sauce, grilled wahoo, and grilled breast of chicken with Dijonnaise sauce. Though most of the regulars seem to stick to beer, visitors often order the house drink, a creamy chocolate Mudslide-type concoction priced at CI$7 (US$8.75/£4.20)
LIGHT HOUSE
Italian/Seafood
(345) 947-2047
The restaurant is a leisurely 20 minute oceanfront drive from the airport. The creative menu of local seafood and Italian cuisine is prepared fresh daily by Executive Chef Remy and his culinary team. The service, under Captain G and his crew, is renowned for its excellence.Dine on the oceanside patio, or in the magnificent air-conditioned Port Room which is available for private functions.
EAGLE RAY'S BAR & GRILL
Seafood/American
(345) 947-0000
Eagle Rays opened its nonexistent doors in July 2013, and thanks to an enviable location 40ft above sea level, patrons are witness to a 180-degree vista of aquamarine water with waves breaking on the reef and dive boats coming and going from the dock. Home of the LION-FISH Taco's! This is Caribbean life at its very best.
